ThoughtCove Privacy Policy

Last updated: May 9, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how ThoughtCove, a product of Route 37 Studios LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), collects, uses, and protects information when you use our platform at thoughtcove.com.

1. Information We Collect

When you use ThoughtCove, we may collect the following types of information:

Information you provide: When you create an account, we collect your name and email address. When you create a poll, we collect the content of your poll questions and options.

Information collected automatically: When you vote in a poll, we collect your IP address, browser fingerprint, user agent string, approximate geographic location (country and region), and time spent on the poll. This information is used exclusively for fraud prevention and duplicate vote detection.

Optional demographic information: Some polls ask optional demographic questions such as age range, gender, or location. This information is always voluntary and is collected anonymously — it cannot be linked back to you individually.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to operate and improve ThoughtCove, prevent fraudulent or duplicate votes, display aggregated poll results and demographic breakdowns, send account-related emails such as verification and notifications, and respond to your questions or feedback.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties. We do not use your information for targeted advertising.

3. Poll Results and Anonymity

All poll responses are stored anonymously. We display only aggregated results — we never publish or share individual responses. Even poll creators cannot see how specific individuals voted.

Demographic data collected during polls is aggregated and anonymized before being displayed in results. It is never linked to individual user accounts.

4. Private Polls

If you create a private poll, your poll and its results are only accessible via the private link you share. We do not index private polls publicly. However, you are responsible for how you distribute your poll link.

5. Cookies and Local Storage

ThoughtCove uses cookies and browser local storage to maintain your login session and remember your theme preferences. We do not use cookies for advertising or tracking purposes.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information for as long as your account is active. Poll data and responses are retained indefinitely to preserve the integrity of results. You may request deletion of your account and associated data by contacting us.

7. Third-Party Services

ThoughtCove may use the following third-party services: email delivery services for transactional emails, and analytics services to understand how the platform is used. These services are bound by their own privacy policies and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

8. Children's Privacy

ThoughtCove is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to access the personal information we hold about you, request correction of inaccurate information, request deletion of your personal information, and opt out of certain data processing activities. To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@thoughtcove.com.

10. Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls to protect your information. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify registered users of material changes. Your continued use of ThoughtCove after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
